What is Baby Botox?Baby Botox is a “less is more” approach. It involves applying smaller doses of Botox into the face to achieve a more natural, less ‘frozen’ result; softening expression lines rather than freezing them. It is about minimising creases and lines without losing your expressions. How does it differ to the traditional Botox, if at all?The main difference between Baby Botox and traditional Botox is that less units of botulinum toxin are used. It lasts about the same time and affects dynamic muscle contractions that cause wrinkles. When considering Baby Botox, keep in mind, the lower dose may not remove all of the lines. Sometimes patients will try this lower dose first and if in a few weeks they don’t see enough improvement fine adjustments can be made to create a bespoke treatment plan. Who is the best candidate and why?Celebrities are obsessed with Baby Botox. It is a great way of having control over your facial expressions and emotions, whilst at the same time preventing the signs of ageing. And younger patients are flocking for a more natural preventative approach to ageing. First time Botox patients are perfect for this. What are some of the key things to note about Baby Botox if someone is considering it?Baby Botox is less noticeable and more subtle. Great for someone who has never had Botox before and wishes to “test the water” & “dip their toe” to see for themselves. Some patients prefer a more natural look and want movement in their face. What are the top benefits of Baby BotoxIt’s great for preventing crow’s feet and frown lines and for lifting a droopy brow. The preventive possibilities with Baby Botox allow patients to be proactive before lines appear so they can enjoy decades of a more youthful appearance. It also allows for a more natural look. Patients with narrow foreheads or low set brows often have better results with lower doses to soften expression lines. Botox has been shown to have other benefits for the skin, improving texture and reducing pore size. How Should you prepare for Baby Botox if you are keen to give it a go?Do your research and pick a practitioner who has extensive experience with facial anatomy. They all have different styles and some advocate natural results more than others. Make sure you align your aesthetic goals with theirs, not theirs with yours. Your doctor will clean the skin with alcohol or an antiseptic and its best to not wear makeup to your appointment to avoid risk of infection. What can you expect during a Baby Botox treatment? The procedure takes only a few minutes. The injections are performed with a very fine needles, so pain is minimal and bruising rare. When used in the muscle, Baby Botox is injected similarly to traditional Botox, just in smaller doses. Any potential side effects everyone should take note of?The potential side effects are the same as with any toxin treatment. Bruising & mild injection site swelling. Allergies to neuromodulators are exceedingly rare. Migraines can occur in those with a history of the condition. Typically, what is the cost of Baby Botox? Is it cheaper than traditional modes of Botox? The price is usually the same. It’s the technique and expertise that you should be paying for, so don’t go cheap. Prices vary from £250-£400 and reviews should be complimentary. Any aftercare of note to know about?Cosmetics are not completely sterile so it’s best to avoid any application for 24 hours following an injection. Don’t exercise rigorously after getting an injection. Perspiration can introduce bacteria into the injection site, increasing your risk of infection. Don’t get chemical peels, microdermabrasion or facials for 24 hours. Is it true Baby Botox is a subtler way to maintain results?Yes. Instead of letting your injection totally wear off after 3 to 6 months subtle changes done over a longer period of time using lower doses of product at each treatment will maintain results. The goal of teeny targeted injections is all about personalisation. How often should you have it done?As with regular Botox treatments it lasts 3- 4 months. I have some patients where it lasts 3 months and other patients who experience longer results. Any other key things to note?Injections are usually less and spaced further apart. Botox is distributed in smaller amounts across the forehead to prevent that frozen “rabbit in headlights” look of no animation. For years I have been mapping out the wrinkle pattern of every patient to create a personalised plan, as every patient is an individual and different. The post What is Baby Botox? Ask any cosmetic specialist and they’ll tell you ‘baby’ Botox is one of their most requested treatments. Using micro-doses of the muscle relaxant, it’s said to provide a more natural, fresh-faced look.First, What Is Baby Botox?“Baby Botox is all about a ‘less is more’ approach. It involves applying smaller doses of Botox into the face to achieve a more natural, less ‘frozen’ result, softening expression lines rather than freezing them entirely. It’s all about minimising creases and fine lines, but without losing all expression.” So The Key Difference Is The Lower Dosage?“The main difference is fewer units of botulinum toxin. But what people likely don’t know is it lasts about the same time as traditional Botox – results wise – and it still affects the dynamic muscle contractions that cause wrinkles. That said, if you’re considering baby Botox, bear in mind the lower dose won’t remove all of your lines. Sometimes, patients will try this lower dose first and if in a few weeks they don’t see enough improvement, adjustments can be made for a more bespoke plan.” How Do You Find The Right Practitioner?“It’s always said, but it’s always true: do your research. Likewise, pick a practitioner who has extensive experience with facial anatomy. They all have different styles and some advocate natural results more than others. Make sure you align your aesthetic goals with theirs, not theirs with yours. Your doctor will clean the skin with alcohol or an antiseptic and it’s best to not wear make-up to your appointment – this helps avoid any risk of infection.” What Should You Expect During A Baby Botox Appointment?“The procedure only takes a few minutes. The injections are performed with very fine needles, so pain is minimal, and bruising is rare. When used in the muscle, baby Botox is injected similarly to traditional Botox, just in smaller doses.” How Often Should You Have Baby Botox Done?“As with regular Botox treatments, the results will last you at least three to four months. I have some patients for whom it lasts for longer, or less – it all varies person to person, but you may want to look into another session any time from this point on. My advice is, instead of letting your injections totally wear off after three to six months, look into subtle changes that can be done over a longer period of time with the lower dose – this will maintain results for longer. Teeny tiny injections like this are ideal, as they are personalised entirely to your needs.” What About The Side Effects – Are There Any?“It’s important you take note of some basic aftercare. Cosmetics are not completely sterile, so it’s best to avoid any make-up for 24 hours following an injection. Don’t exercise rigorously after Botox either. Perspiration can introduce bacteria into the injection site, increasing your risk of infection. Also, don’t get any chemical peels or microdermabrasion facials for 24 hours.” Finally, What Should You Expect To Pay?“The price is the same as normal Botox. It’s the technique and expertise you should be paying for, so don’t go cheap. Prices vary from £250-£400 and reviews should be complimentary. If you ever find a practitioner that seems overly affordable, always question it.” This article first appeared in Sheerluxe. If your body faces challenges both frequently and over a long period of time, you are constantly producing higher levels of stress hormones and your body does not have time to recover. These stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline can cause serious health problems. This chronic stress scenario of Covid-19 and the pandemic, producing feelings of uncertainty, fear and hopelessness with prolonged periods of isolation, most certainly contribute to a new form of stress that is affecting a lot more people on a global scale. Particular individuals may be more susceptible including those that already have an imbalance of hormones or those with certain weakened immune systems or disease. And stress can cause many health problems, such as:
These 3 areas in particular scored high in a small survey carried out on my patients currently on BHRT or Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy. How does this happen. We are not entirely sure. There are several theories which state that elevated levels of cortisol caused by stress “steals” more of the precursor hormone, pregnenolone, which is used to produce steroid hormones such as progesterone, testosterone & oestrogen. There is no doubt that a stressed state leads to a hormone imbalance. By contrast, oxytocin, or the love hormone, can induce anti-stress-like effects such as reduction of blood pressure and cortisol levels. It exerts an anxiolytic-like effect and stimulates various types of positive social interaction. And one thing we all suffered to a degree was social isolation as a result of the Covid-19 lockdowns from time to time. In addition, oxytocin promotes growth and healing. It is also known that the Covid-19 virus sticks to ACE-2 receptors and affects most of the endocrine glands. So, whilst the specific mechanisms may not be known at this stage, there appears to be an overwhelming amount of evidence to suggest that Covid-19 causes hormonal imbalance. What can you do to reduce stress:
And all of the above will improve your immune system and make you more resistant to viral infections. It’s one of the first and most obvious things to do to soften an ageing face. Cheeks are an important part of your face and play a key roles in balancing other features. Eye HollowsIf you are tired of being told you look tired, turning back the clock may be easier than you think. Whether it’s hollows under the eye known as the “tear trough” or dark shadows that are making you look constantly tired, then a soft acid filler can make a major difference. Marionette LinesIf deep vertical lines that run down from the sides of the mouth towards the chin give you a grumpy look. Injecting dermal filler into the lines will soften their appearance giving the face a more relaxed and pleasant demeanour. Chin & JawlineIf your facial scaffolding is beginning to collapse taking the jaw with it. Careful placement of dermal filler in the lower face will lift jowls, strengthen a week chin and reduce the puckering of slacking skin. Dermal fillers are also used to add volume to create a refined contour. NoseIf you are unhappy with the shape of your nose. Dermal fillers can be used in a variety of ways to correct a slight bump on the nose, depressed bridge (saddle nose), beak-like nose, or droopy tip. Dermal fillers can help to enhance the shape of your nose creating a smoother profile. LipsIf your lips are losing definition, thinning or drooping. Dermal filler injected into specific areas can create a more defined shape to lips or increase volume for a more plump look. Ask your practitioner about his/her credentials. If you are considering an aesthetic treatment, you should only be treated by a trained and qualified practitioner. Are they a doctor, nurse or dentist? Is he/she a member of BCAM, the British College of Aesthetic Doctors, GMC, General Medical Council, BACN, British Association of Cosmetic Nurses or GDC, General Dental Council. #2. Ask to see examples of his/her work.Ask the practitioner about his experience how long he/she has been practicing aesthetics. Ask to see examples of his/her work: before/after photos of patients who have had the same treatment you are asking about. #3. Ask what brand or product he/she uses and why.Check the brand that your practitioner is planning to use. If you are having fillers ask which type of filler they plan to use and why. Certain areas of the face require specific products, they all have different characteristics. #4. Does your practitioner have any reviews you can look at.Platforms include Trustpilot, Google and Facebook. #5. Ask what treatment do you need to get the look you want.Ask your practitioner to explain your treatment plan – what they plan to do and when. Understanding how they plan to address your needs will mean you are working in partnership with your practitioner and your goals. As we age, it is normal to see creases when you move your face. When Your Brow Begins to Fall Causing Hooded EyesIf you need to use your hand to pull your eyelid up, you may be a candidate for an anti-wrinkle injection. This involves injecting directly between the brows to relax the muscles underneath, allowing the upper forehead muscles to ‘pull’ the brow up and the skin to smooth out. When You Actually Can See the Number 11 Forming Between Your EyesYou may start noticing frown lines developing between your eyes that may look like the number 11 or “tram lines”. I recommend treating that area with a wrinkle relaxer before the number 11 sets in. When You Smile and See Visible Lines Radiating Around Your EyesCrow’s feet are another concern that should be treated early. The top sign for needing an anti- wrinkle injection is the evidence of muscles contracting and moving. A few painless, skilfully placed injections will prevent the crow’s feet from forming while preserving the natural expressions of your face. You’ve Been Wanting to Try ItThe great thing about wrinkle relaxers is that results are temporary. While they may not be the answer to every anti-ageing concern, you can try them and simply pause further treatment if you’re not happy. However, if your friends and family think you always look angry, sad or tired it may finally be time to give anti-wrinkle injections a try. That said, in order to get this right, you need to ensure you’re doing your research and seeing the best in the business. Make sure you’re seeing someone – ideally – that’s a member of BCAM, the British College of Aesthetic Doctors. Find someone who has experience and good reviews, and perhaps better still, find someone they’ve done work on before, so you can physically see the results.” This article first appeared on Sheerluxe. Who should have Profhilo?Anyone beginning to get loose, saggy, wrinkly skin or those in need of a good dose of hydration. Is Profhilo different from dermal fillers? It’s very different from fillers. Dermal fillers are used to create volume and to change the structure of your face while Profhilo integrates with your skin to harness its own ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production. It doesn’t plump or add any volume to the areas treated. It works brilliantly if you’ve had fillers but you still want a better texture and glow. Can you have a Profhilo treatment at the same time as Botox & fillers? You can have a Botox treatment as the same time, but it’s not advised to have the treatment with other fillers in the same area of injections. How quickly do you see results?Within around 24 hours. How many treatments do you need? You could have one, but two treatment sessions with a one-month interval in between will provide the best results. To maintain the results, you will need top-up maintenance treatments at six-month intervals. How long does the treatment take? It’s five tiny injections on each side of the face so it’s remarkably quick and there isn’t any bruising or downtime. Is it safe?Yes. Profhilo is 100% hyaluronic acid, so contains no added chemicals making it highly biocompatible – it can coexist with living tissue without causing any harm.
