MenopauseMenopause is a milestone in a women’s life and health that all adult females will experience. The menopause is a natural part of ageing that usually occurs between 45 and 55 years of age, as woman’s estrogen levels decline. The average age for a woman to reach menopause is 51. For many women, these years can be difficult ones. Fluctuating hormone levels can cause uncomfortable and even incapacitating symptoms. Menopause symptoms
Hormones and treatments for menopauseBio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy, also know as BHRT, are chemically identical to the natural hormones produced by the human body. The body treats and processes these hormones as if they were our own which is why BHRT has grown in popularity. Conventional Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) are sometimes animal derived (horse estrogens). They are not identical in chemical structure to those hormones produced by the human body while Bio-Identical hormones match human hormones molecule by molecule making it easier to metabolise. BHRT benefits
Hormone testingA simple blood test/hormone profile will provide the information needed to ascertain which hormones are deficient or imbalanced. Other profiles can check vitamin and mineral levels to see if you would benefit from any dietary or lifestyle changes. Your hormone program can be adapted as progress is made to achieve good hormonal balance. Most patients begin to feel better within a few months, but some results take a bit longer to achieve. You may begin to feel a difference within a matter of weeks, especially when it comes to hot flashes, sleep patterns and energy levels. If you would like to learn more about BHRT, find out more here. Activities of hormones include food metabolism, maintaining body temperature, cardiovascular health, healthy hair, skin and sleep patterns as well as regulating mood and cognitive functioning. Hormones keep the whole body in balance and are crucial to the health and vitality of both men and women. After the age of 25 our hormones begin to decline gradually and around the age of 35 most men and women have a deficiency in their primary hormone levels and start to experience a range of symptoms.
The post Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy for a more balanced life appeared first on Dr Richard Sibthorpe. from https://doctorsib.com/media/2020/08/13/bio-identical-hormone-replacement-therapy-for-a-more-balanced-life/ There are so many ways to help the immune system besides relying on pharmaceutical drugs such as antibiotics and antivirals. The key with the immune system is to keep it strong before you get sick. Preventive measures are the best way to keep the body healthy. More importantly your immunity is linked to your long term quality of life, less degenerative ageing and less “inflammageing” (Ageing with inflammation).
Our immune system relies on nutrient-dense whole foods to function well. So try and eat fresh organic food, perhaps grow your own vegetables and fruit. Limiting refined starch and sugar will help your immune system function better and your overall health improves. Sugar & starches causes hormonal & metabolic dysfunction and disease, inflammation and ultimately ageing Ensure adequate protein Intake. Protein is critical for immune function and protein malnutrition is a big risk factor for infections and deterioration. As we get older you need more protein. Follow an anti-inflammatory diet (fresh vegetables and fruit, steamed or boiled meat or chicken), avoid all sweets, unsprouted grains, and milk products that calm down your immune system. Eat multiple servings of colourful fruits and vegetables high in vitamins; such as B, C and D that support the immune system. Add garlic, onions, ginger and spices to your meals. Ginger & Turmeric tea. Drink plenty of fluids, especially water – 2L/day. Staying hydrated keeps the immune system functioning at an optimal level. Incorporate electrolytes if you are becoming dehydrated. Coconut water contains electrolytes that help your cells absorb the water. Get sufficient sleep. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that 8 hours sleep is necessary for both healing and developing neural networks in your brain. Get exercise: mild to moderate exercise helps boost the immune system. Not intense as this will compromise your immune system if you are ill at the time. Interval training is a type of training that involves a series of high intensity workouts interspersed with rest or relief periods. The high-intensity periods are typically at or close to an aerobic exercise, while the recovery periods involve activity of lower intensity. A High Dose Multivitamin/Mineral. It’s a good way to cover the basic vitamins and minerals your body needs for day to day functions. Look for a high quality multivitamin and/or minerals; usually liquid forms (liposomal) are better for absorption than tablets or capsules. Vitamin D3 – It’s wise to take a Vitamin D supplement if you feel you are not getting enough of this important vitamin, which can be measured by a blood test. Vitamin C – Good for lung function. Liposomal best. Or IV. Zinc – Helps cells in your immune system grow and differentiate. Magnesium – Not only supports the body’s immune system, but strengthen it. It can help stimulate and increase efficiency in combating illness. Fish Oil – For added immune protection Probiotics – A healthy gut flora supports a healthy gut and helps mount a strong defense against germs. I hope this information has given you ideas and tips in keeping your immune system healthy. Continue to follow social distancing guidelines; wear a mask; wash hands. Take Care and Stay Safe. Injected in small amounts into key points of the face, it can recreate the same surgical outcomes from more invasive treatments. Whether it’s straightening bumps, lifting the tip of the nose or making certain areas of the face appear smaller, each treatment is personalised and tailored to you. With no need for a scalpel, general anaesthetic and the ability to change things if you’re unhappy, we can see why it’s so appealing. Dubbed a ‘lunchtime’ procedure, it’s also relatively pain-free thanks to the use of tiny needles. What’s more, the hyaluronic acid is laced with anesthetic, so after any initial injections, the treatment area quickly becomes numb. This article first appeared in Sheerluxe. He takes a dual approach to age management tackling not only lines and wrinkles, but the person from the inside out. In his interview with award winning beauty journalist, Alice Hart-Davis, he talks about his experience with the Covid-19 illness, his recovery process and the best ways to prepare whether infected with the virus or not. The below is a synopsis of the interview questions and answers and have been edited for length and clarity. Alice: You just recovered from this awful virus. Did you get I mildly or badly? Dr. Sibthorpe: There was one point I didn’t think I would make it because the breathing became hard and I could hardly move or walk or breath for about 3-4 days. It was really bad despite everything I did as well. Alice: What kind of things did you find were helpful…your key recommendations? Dr. Sibthorpe: I actually started before I flew to California – before I even thought I might have it. I took mega doses of Vitamin D, Vitamin C and Zinc. I also started an anti-inflammatory diet – cutting out animal protein which is acidic. I added Probiotics to cleanse the gut, Indian Cherry Bark, Elderberry syrup, Colloidal Silver and ginger & Tumeric tea. Alice: You mentioned an anti-acidic diet. Can you explain that a bit more.? Dr. Sibthorpe: There’s evidence that animal protein will create acidity. Makes you more acidic. I’m moving more to an alkaline type of diet. It’s something I need to further explore. I’m cutting down on sugar – processed food. My diet is more plant based. I’m moving more to eating plant based foods. Alice: When you say you are taking mega doses of Vitamin C and Vitamin D – what sort of doses are you talking about? Dr. Sibthorpe: I take a form of Vitamin C called Liposomal – 10,000 to 20,000 units; Vitamin D 10,000 units a day; 30mg of Zinc – you can take up to 50mg. Alice: You talk about Probiotics. What kind of Probiotics do you like.? Dr. Sibthorpe: The trick with Probiotics is not stick to the same one all the time – but to change it. You want a Probiotic with many strains – billions of strains. You body gets use to certain bacteria so you want to mix it up. Alice: You have an elite clientele. Do they see any conflict to being healthy and having injectables at he same time? Dr. Sibthorpe: They all live a healthy lifestyle but they love their injections just as much. Looking Good and Feeling Good has always been my motto. We’re all looking at our external physical appearance but much more important is looking at the inside of yourself. It’s all part of my work with Bio-Identical hormones and good nutrition. What I am doing is two-fold. I’m boosting my immune system and trying to detoxify. A two-pronged attack. Alice: With the detoxing – can you explain.? Dr. Sibthorpe: Celery juice is good for detoxification. Chlorella tablets to help get rid of heavy metals in your body. Fish Oil for added immune protection. Mushrooms for boosting immunity. Melatonin is also good. A diet that’s rich in colourful foods & fruits that are high in Vitamin C & D and antioxidants that support your immune system. Alice: Where can people find you in London? Dr. Sibthorpe: I’m based in South Kensington. Being alone facing a raging coronavirus infection, even with loved ones nearby, is something everyone can’t help contemplating or perhaps doing their best to avoid thinking about. It’s a bridge we’ll cross too, if we find ourselves there. Dr. Richard Sibthorpe, an affable Brit, longtime Santa Barbara resident and a highly lauded cosmetic doctor from the UK, contracted the virus and has crossed that bridge. These unknown variables are part of the swift deadly silent stealth infection we are dealing with and our inability to tame it. When Dr. Sibthorpe checked in with the Montecito Journal on his twenty-fifth day of isolation, he was in good spirits and his voice sounded strong. Clearly, he was looking forward to telling his story. He arrived from the UK on March 11. Because of the news stories he had heard, he immediately isolated to protect his wife Sheila Herman, a realtor at Goodwin & Thyne. Shortly after, he developed the devasting fatigue, the first hallmark of the deadly coronavirus. On March 12, his wife insisted he go to Cottage Hospital to get tested. He Didn’t Want to be Tested“I wouldn’t have gone to be frank,” Dr. Sibthorpe remarked. “As a doctor I’m fairly stoic. I can only recall one infection in my eye and I’m sixty. I’m exposed to a lot of illness through my patients. Just generally, I don’t seem to get ill. But I wanted to be safe for my wife.” Treatment at Home in Isolation“If I made any effort, I felt exhausted, I couldn’t walk. Talking, even talking was impossible. My wife got a bit annoyed with me because she said, ‘you don’t communicate,’ but I just felt absolutely drained.” “I completely lost all my smell and taste. It was very odd. I still don’t have it,” he added. This has become another frequent result of the virus attack on the trachea and lungs. Still the last thing he wanted to do was go to the hospital. Detox and Boost Your Immune SystemThere is no cure or prescribed treatment for coronavirus, so Dr. Sibthorpe couldn’t fall back on his medical training. One significant aspect of the corona pandemic is that it’s forced many of us look toward more traditional resources out of necessity with renewed focus. It was also opportune that celebrated local nutritionist, chef, and health coach Veronica Villanueva was a close friend they could turn to. She worked with both Richard and Sheila, detoxing and building up their immune systems simultaneously. Ms. Villanueva’s book The Grace of Cancer recounts her personal journey to overcome Stage 4 lung cancer. She insisted that husband and wife adhere to the same regimen even though Sheila hadn’t shown any symptoms. Dr. Sibthorpe laid out the key points of his recovery program. First and foremost, bolster your immune system. This is our natural line of defense. This is not the time to undermine your nat- ural defenses. Second, detox your gut. If the body must defend itself, nothing is more important than the micro- biome. If you don’t know about the microbiome and how much it determines your health, sleep, emotions, and well-being than you should Google it immediately. Third the old standby – fluids. Dr. Sibthorpe tried to get through a jug of water, about two liters, a day which was the bare minimum. Fourth, keep everyone else a safe social distance away. It’s your responsibility no matter your condition. “The key corner- stone of the Hippocratic oath is do no harm,” he points out.Dr. Sibthorpe offered a few addition suggestions that included Biocidin, Cats Claw, mushrooms, celery juice, dan- delion tea, elderberry, and perhaps the most ubiquitous resource in Santa Barbara County, CBD with a touch of THC. He also bought a Pulse Oximeter which measures the oxygen in your blood. This article first appeared in Montecito Journal. The post My Corona: Local Doctor Contracts the Disease – Dr. Sibthorpe featured in Montecito Journal appeared first on Dr Richard Sibthorpe. from https://doctorsib.com/media/2020/04/18/my-corona-local-doctor-contracts-the-disease/ A chiselled jawline is now one of the most requested ‘tweakments’ on the aesthetics market, with 67% of us looking for better facial definition. Here, aesthetic expert, Dr. Richard Sibthorpe, explains how the procedure works and what to know beforehand…It Uses Botox & Fillers In CombinationJawline recontouring has soared in population over the last few years. As a procedure, it uses injectables – both fillers and botox – to sculpt and define. The reason the two are used in combination is to achieve significant results, but without creating a harsh or exaggerated appearance at the same time. The two together give your face a more refined appearance, reducing sagginess and improving the appearance of double chins. The Procedure Boosts ElasticityAs we age, upper and midface volume loss occurs with fat descending into the lower parts of the face, giving way to sagginess and jowls. This is further exacerbated by bone loss, which usually provides support for soft tissues. Everyone will see these effects at some point in their life, which is why chin and jawline reshaping has become so popular. We now have the ability to achieve incredible results in the lower and midface, restoring volume and lift, while enhancing that angular look people are craving. During the treatment, it’s key practitioners achieve facial harmony as well, and not just treat the jaw or chin itself. It’s about understanding balance to make people look like the best version of themselves. Pain Is Rare During The TreatmentYou may feel slight discomfort during or after the procedure, but actual pain should be minimal. Topical anaesthesia can be used, but is rarely required. The fillers have anaesthetics in them, which will help to ease any discomfort during the treatment anyway. However, if you have a low pain threshold, take some paracetamol beforehand, this always helps. It’s Quicker Than You ThinkThe whole process takes 20 minutes from start to finish. Many patients come in during their lunch break to get the procedure done. The treatment will start with botox being injected along the jawline and down the neck. Next, Volux is used, a new, thicker hyaluronic acid filler which provides support to overlying soft tissues and along the jawline beneath the skin to provide contour. The chin can be injected to provide anterior projection and provide more support to reduce the jowls. These techniques are not usually painful and you can return to work immediately after, with no recovery time. Only A Couple Of Sessions Are RequiredThe number of treatments and amount of filler needed will vary and depend on your age, degree of skin laxity, volume loss and sagginess. Typically, you can expect to have two to three sessions about four to six weeks apart. Care must be taken not to overfill in one session as this may cause infection and pressure around certain vasculature – safety is key with this treatment, so ensure you’re seeking out someone who’s experienced. Results Are ImmediateYou’ll see results almost straight after your appointment, but these will continue to improve over two to six weeks. This is because the botox starts to work properly, while the filler integrates with your own soft tissues, causing some collagen stimulation as well. Another bonus is that unlike other semi-permanent treatments, the results can last up to two years. However, since we are still ageing and the filler is gradually broken down, it is advised to maintain this with ‘tweaks’ or smaller injections either once or twice a year, depending on your own ageing process – which is often affected by lifestyle, smoking, alcohol and sun damage. Other Treatments Can Help Enhance ResultsThere are numerous, non-invasive ways to contour the jawline, including infra-red therapy or thread lifts. In fact, light therapy can be combined with chin and jaw fillers to yield better results. It’s worth noting that everyone is different, and assessment and suitability is paramount to what treatment works best for you, so always seek out an expert’s advice before you proceed. Prices for jawline recontouring start from £270 upwards.
